Uber Adds Option for Women Riders and Drivers to Match

Following Lyft, Uber has introduced a new feature that allows women riders to request women drivers and enables women drivers to accept only women passengers.

The feature, called “Women Preferences,” gives women several new options when booking a ride. Riders can request a woman driver on demand, reserve a trip in advance with a woman driver, or set a default preference in the app to increase the likelihood of being matched with a woman driver.

At the same time, women drivers can choose to accept ride requests only from women passengers, giving them more flexibility in how they work and who they pick up.

The feature has been expanding steadily. Initially introduced in Saudi Arabia in 2019, it has since grown into a global program available in more than 40 countries for drivers and several countries for riders, including the United States.

By allowing women to choose who they ride with, the company hopes to create a more comfortable experience, especially for those traveling alone or at night.

From a mobility management perspective, this highlights a key point: access to transportation isn’t just about availability, it’s also about feeling safe and confident while traveling.
