PATH Presents at Fluvanna Rotary Club

On June 3rd, the PATH program was invited to speak at a meeting of the Fluvanna Rotary Club in Palmyra. The event provided an opportunity to raise awareness about local transportation resources and highlight innovative volunteer solutions to mobility challenges.

Lucinda Shannon, PATH Program Manager, gave a comprehensive overview of the program’s services, including the toll-free transportation helpline, travel training, workshops, Transportation Assistance Fund and support for volunteer driver programs. She also shared information about public transportation options available in Fluvanna County and the greater Charlottesville area, helping attendees better understand the landscape of local mobility services.

The presentation also featured guest speaker Maryann Long, President of Cville Village—a volunteer-based initiative supporting older adults. Ms. Long introduced the “Village” concept, which empowers neighbors to help one another age in place through coordinated volunteer support. She shared her personal experience in establishing a volunteer driver program in Virginia and spoke about the tangible impact it has had on reducing isolation and increasing independence for seniors in the community.

The event highlighted the importance of collaboration between local service organizations and community groups to build more accessible and inclusive transportation solutions for all residents.
