Published annually, USAging’s National AAA Survey Chartbook highlights key trends and innovations shaping the work of Area Agencies on Aging (AAAs) nationwide. The 2025 edition features Mountain Empire Older Citizens, Inc. (MEOC) in Virginia for its innovative approach to rural transportation.
MEOC recently launched METGo!, a microtransit service that uses ride-hailing technology to improve mobility options in rural communities. Using a smartphone app, riders can schedule trips within a 15-square-mile service area and track their bus in real time. The service is designed to increase efficiency while making transportation more accessible and user-friendly for rural residents.
METGo! is one of only two microtransit services currently being piloted in Virginia.
